Antiracism Team
St John’s Antiracism Mission
As members of St. John’s Episcopal Church, we work to identify, disrupt, and dismantle racism within our church and our community.
The St. John’s Antiracism Team is charged with guiding our church to fulfill St. John’s antiracism vision and mission and is given this authority by a Vestry mandate. The antiracism team serves in an advisory capacity to the entire parish and to the Vestry and may advise on or propose new or revised policies/procedures, which are voted on by the Vestry. The team evaluates progress towards dismantling systemic racism with an analysis tool called the Continuum on becoming an antiracist multicultural institution. Each year the team develops an annual action plan with specific activities designed to help St. John’s move along the continuum and fulfill its antiracism vision and mission. The annual action plan includes items such as antiracism training, speaker events, book and movie discussions, proposed institutional policy/procedure changes, outreach to St. John’s ministries, reparation payments to groups to address harms of racism and other activities.
